The St. Ann’s Development Council’s visionary approach to the systematic development of Ocho Rios has been in force since the 1960’s. The area has long been a hot-spot destination for Jamaicans traveling within the island and has become a modern day Mecca for tourists. As the tourism industry has grown, major cruise lines and hotel chains have made Ocho Rios a preferred destination to travelers worldwide.

The parish’s economy is intrinsically tied to tourism and therefore everyone is vested in making it a friendly and pleasant destination for visitors. Ocho Rios is consistently one of the best maintained towns in Jamaica. Following in this tradition, The Jamaican Government has recently invested in the region with the new Ian Flemming International Airport, earmarked for private aircrafts thereby targeting affluent international visitors.

As a primary tourist destination the face of St. Ann is continuously evolving as we strive to attract more visitors. One exception to its visible change is within the town of St. Ann’s Bay, the charming capital of the Garden Parish. As you meander through its narrow streets, Jamaica’s vast and varied history is visible throughout the town. Many of the buildings are maintained in their original form which date back to the 1800’s. The highest points of the town overlook Drax Hall Estate which was founded in 1669. The estate is located on the seafront just outside the town of St. Ann’s Bay and its history is as colorful and transitional as the parish.
